Anti freeze protection

Vaillant heat pump being tested in very cold conditions

Anti-freeze protection is a safety feature in heating and cooling systems that prevents water or heat transfer fluids from freezing at low temperatures. When liquids freeze, they expand and can damage pipes, heat exchangers, pumps, and other system components. To avoid this, systems use either chemical additives (glycol-based solutions) or automated functions such as frost protection modes in boilers, heat pumps, and solar thermal systems. These functions activate circulation or heating at critical temperatures, ensuring reliable operation even in winter. Anti-freeze protection safeguards system efficiency, reduces costly repairs, and is essential for installations in cold or unheated environments.
