Layered charge storage system
A layered storage tank, also called stratified storage tank or thermosiphon storage tank, is a particularly effective hot water storage tank for the heating or service water of a heating system.
Layered storage tanks are narrower and smaller than other storage tanks with the same capacity. Their special design with valves that throttle the inflow velocity and baffle plates that separate the different layers of heat from each other allow water to be available at the desired temperature at all times. To achieve this, layered storage tanks use and reinforce the physical effect that warm water is stored at the top and cold water at the bottom due to its lower density. The temperatures are always constant and the water can always be drawn at the desired usage temperature.
