Circulating pump
A circulation pump is an optional, electric-powered circulation pump that can be integrated into the service or drinking water system of a house. It is mainly used for central hot water preparation without having to also utilise an instantaneous water heater. It is installed on the pipeline leading from the tap point furthest away from the hot water tank to the water supply.
The name of the circulation pump is derived from the word "circulate", which means to circle or go in circles. In heating technology, the circulation pump sustains the hot water circulation. While the heating pump is only responsible for transporting the heating water, the circulation pump is responsible for circulating the hot water or drinking water. The circulation pump keeps the hot water moving by regularly pumping it around and thus prevents water in the pipe from getting cold. Without the circulation pump, the heated water would cool down gradually after the last time it was drawn and, if it was tapped later on, cold water would come first until the hot water in the storage tank reached the tapping point after several seconds or even minutes. A circulation pump therefore improves the living comfort by providing hot water that is immediately available italso saves water.
