Heat recovery with a heat pump

Heat recovery (HR) extracts the heat energy from the used room air or waste water and makes it usable to reduce the consumption of primary energy. This conserves energy, lowers costs and reduces CO₂ emissions. The three types of heat recovery are recuperative and regenerative as well as recovery by heat pumps.

With recuperative heat recovery, fresh and used heat transfer media (air or water) flow in separate streams. The heat transfer medium flowing alternately through the plates of a heat plate exchanger ensures an almost maintenance-free, hygienic heat transfer and thus recovery.

In the case of regenerative heat recovery, the heat is stored in a heat storage tank. A typical example is the rotary heat exchanger , where the stored energy of the used heat carrier flows into the fresh one. This type of heat recovery is not as hygienic as the recuperative method and requires more maintenance.

In heat recovery with heat pumps, not only is the heat from the consumed heat transfer medium used, but it is also amplified by compression so that it can be used for heating and service water.
