Net calorific value

Net calorific value, also referred to as lower heating value, indicates the usable energy from a fuel after subtracting the energy lost as water vapour during combustion.
Unlike gross calorific value, the net calorific value provides a realistic measure of the energy available for heating purposes, excluding the heat from condensing water vapour. This makes the net calorific value an essential parameter in heating systems, particularly when assessing the efficiency of non-condensing boilers. By focusing on the energy that can be directly utilised, the net calorific value helps in accurate assessment and selection of heating systems, ensuring optimal energy use and performance in your home.
