Solar pump

System components for the most efficient heating

A solar pump is a component of a solar thermal system. It moves solar fluid and transports it to the solar storage tank. In larger solar thermal systems, solar pumps can also be linked together as a solar pump group in order to deliver a greater pumping capacity.

Solar pumps have an electrically operated motor that drives a blade wheel, which circulates the solar fluid, and for this reason they are also called solar circulation pumps. The solar pump motor is protected against penetration of the solar liquid by a canister and against overheating by being mounted at the cooler return flow of the solar collector.

If the temperature between the solar collector and the solar buffer storage tank falls below the specified temperature, a solar controller switches it on. In modern solar pumps, the solar controller also determines the volume of solar fluid that has to be circulated and transported to the buffer storage tank. There are special solar pumps for preparing service water, and these prevent the formation of legionella by constantly circulating it within the fresh water loop. The electricity required for operation is very low compared to standard circulating pumps and can be generated by a photovoltaic system.
