Solid fuel boiler

Solid fuel boilers are heat generators that supply heating and hot water to the entire house as central heating under full load operation. Fossil fuels such as lignite or hard coal briquettes and coke or regenerative fuels such as wood chips, logs, wood briquettes or pellets, but also leaves and other biomasses, are possible for firing. Generally, the fuel is supplied manually. Specialised solid fuel boilers, such as the pellet boiler, usually use automatic feeding with screw conveyors.

Depending on the type of solid fuel boiler, the combustion air can be supplied from the bottom or from the side and the firing can be from below or above. Natural draft boilers regulate the air supply by means of flaps. Unlike natural draft boilers, solid fuel boilers with a control system and fan require electricity for their operation. Among these solid fuel boilers is also the jetstream boiler, which is limited to one fuel, but with its two-chamber system has the highest efficiency and the lowest emission values.

All solid fuel boilers have a high space requirement for dry storage of the fuels and a higher maintenance requirement than oil or gas-fired boilers.
