Tankless water heater
Instantaneous water heaters, also called tankless water heaters (TWH), are permanently installed water heaters. Unlike boilers, they do not heat the water in a storage tank, but rather through a heat exchanger to produce the exact quantity and temperature of water required when and as it is desired by turning on the mixer tap. This eliminates the possibility of legionella bacteria developing and heat loss. To heat the water immediately, a lot of energy in the form of electricity or natural gas is needed, but only for a brief period of time. The amount of hot water that can be tapped is therefore limited.
Instantaneous water heaters are decentralised water heaters and are usually installed in the bathroom to supply the shower/bathtub and washbasin with water at the same time. Other tapping points, such as the kitchen sink, can also be supplied from here if the distance is short enough. For small households or taps that cannot be connected to a central hot water supply, a tankless water heater is an effective solution for generating hot water.
