Thermostatic mixing valve

A thermostatic mixing valve is a central mixing element that primarily ensures that users are protected against scalding at drinking and service water tapping points. In addition to the taps in bathrooms and kitchens, thermostatic mixing valves are also used as minimum-temperature mixing elements in heating systems. They are essential for safety, especially when using solar thermal energy, where very high water temperatures can be reached. In addition to this safety aspect, the increased energy efficiency due to the optimal utilisation of the hot water storage temperatures also speaks for the use of thermostatic mixing valves.

Without auxiliary power and with infinite variability, they ensure that the selected maximum water temperature is not exceeded and a constant mixed water temperature is maintained. To do this, the mixing valve needs access to the cold and hot water supply. The set and actual temperature values are calibrated. If there is a difference, a control piston is moved by an expansion element. This allows appropriate quantities of water to flow in through access to the cold and hot water supply in order to correct the temperature automatically.
